Apple and Walnut Swirls

0
Apple and cinnamon are some those flavors that define the fall season for me. For that reason, I came up with this delicious and easy apple and walnut swirls recipe. I made them the other day for a dinner party, and not only they made my house smell great when the guest arrived (I didn’t need to light any candles), but we also  had a great desert to have with tea after dinner.  It was the quickest and easiest desert I’ve made and had everyone talking.
I hope to get to try this recipe and enjoy it!
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 20  minutes
Yields: 15
Ingredients:
1
1 Puff Pastry Sheet
2 Apples, peeled and chopped
1/2 cup of ground walnuts
1 tbsp of unsalted butter
1/2 tsp of cinnamon
1/4 tsp of nutmeg
1 tbsp + 1 tsp of sugar
A pinch of salt
Directions:
2
Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees and keep the pastry in the fridge for now
Heat up a pan and add butter, apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, 1 tsp of sugar, and a pinch of salt
4
Saute the apples with the butter and the spices for 5 minutes until they are slightly tender and caramelized
5
Remove apples from the pan and allow them to cool completely
6
After the apples are cooled, remove the pastry from the fridge, unfold it and sprinkle it with the remaining 1 tbsp of sugar
7
Top off the sugar with the ground walnuts leaving about 1/4 inch around the edges
8
 Then add the caramelized apples
9
Roll up the dough starting on the edge that is closest to you
10
If you feel that the dough is too soft, you can place it in the fridge a 10-15 minutes to cool so it is easier to cut
11
Using a sharp knife cut the roll in circle about 1/2 inch tick
12
Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper
13
Bake for 15 minutes or until golden
14
I thought I’d snap a picture of the swirls when they are about half way done. They look and smell scrumptious!
15
Remove from oven and allow the swirls to cool before serving
16
Enjoy warm or at room temperature!
