Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

Most store bought spaghetti sauces have a lot of salt, sugar and preservatives. I know they come in handy and easy to use, especially after a long day at work. But if you invest just a little time and effort, you will end up having a much healthier spaghetti sauce. Not to mention, it will taste ten times better thanks to all the herbs and spices we’ll be using.

This is a basic recipe. You can twist it as much as you’d like, and it will still taste great. Let me tell you, you can never mess up anything with meat and tomatoes as long as you add herbs and spices, and everything will be good.

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook time: 90 minutes

Ingredients:

1 Small onion chopped
3 Cloves of garlic finely chopped
1 Tablespoon of olive oil
1 Lb of ground beef
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon of ground ginger
1 tablespoon of dried oregano
1 Bay leaf
1 tablespoon of brown sugar
2 tablespoons of tomato paste
1 Can (14 oz) of tomato sauce
3 Cups of water

The longer it cooks on low heat, the better will taste. So don’t rush it.
If you don’t have time to sit and watch over the stove for 90 minutes, you can transfer the sauce to a crock-pot, but add only 1.5 cups of water. Cook on high for 4-5 hours. This homemade spaghetti sauce freezes really well. So make double or triple this recipe, divide it into ziploc freezer bags and freeze them. Every time you need spaghetti sauce, just pull one out of the freezer, heat it up, cook some pasta and dinner is served.

  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 1 Can (14 oz) of tomato sauce
  • 3 Cups of water
Directions
